Finally some progress...

Remember the purple fairy doll I asked for your help on?  Well I finally made some progress...not much but none the less some...She was started around Christmas and was going to be a sugar plum fairy.  Well since it's almost spring and I'm getting impatient, I decided to make her a spring flower fairy.  She is still without arms but finally has a tutu!  I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out.  I bought some silk flowers and pulled them apart.   I sewed the petals around her waist and now she is ready to dance!

Ok, now to come up with some wings and of course some arms :)

I have about four projects started and just can't seem to focus on just one.  Hopefully I find the focus to actually finish one so I can share it with you!

I have been super busy lately with all kinds of things and have not had much time to post, but I did manage to find some time to make another dolly for Dolly Donations.  This time we made a little boy dolly.  As some of you know, I have been approved to be a Girl Scout Daisy leader.  I am so excited and can't wait to get started.  Although I have many ideas I am always looking for new ones.  If you have any great ideas for crafts, games or activities for a group of kindergarten and 1st grade girls let me know.  If you would rather send me an email rather than a comment my email is agnesrhodes2@diaryofasahm.com (its also posted on the right side of the blog page).  Another thing I'm excited about is the Pepsi Refresh Project.  Pepsi is giving away grant money to people who post their ideas and get the most votes.  They are accepting 1000 great ideas every month and awarding different money amounts to people with the best ideas.  I have a few ideas and am waiting until the 1st of the month to submit mine.  Here is the link to submit and vote (also for all the rules and details) http://www.refresheverything.com/index  Hope to see some of your great ideas!

Spring are you coming?

So I realize it is still February, but to me that just means spring is approaching....soon.  I'm starting to get antsy and want to be outside working on the garden, planting things, doing yard work and enjoying the sun.  I know its early but my mind is already planning what I want to grow this year.  So on that note, its time to start spring cleaning.  This year I hope to finally have that yard sale where we get rid of ALL the stuff in the basement and garage (I have hope).  I also want to de-clutter every inch of the house, that might take me a while so I decided to start today.  I am happy to say I finally organized that crazy corner downstairs where the kids toys meet my crazy crafting stuff.  It took a while but I think it looks much better.  I sew quite a bit so I have this hamper full of scraps of fabric.  Its easy to just toss the scraps into the hamper but I never really knew what I had in there since everything was jumbled up.  My solution....sandwich baggies!  I folded all the scraps and put them into baggies and now they all fit neatly into the hamper and its so much easier to find what I need.  I should have done this a long time ago.

Dolly Donations

Surfing the web with Lexi the other day we came across a blog that caught our attention.  A woman named Sarah Hanson came up with a program called Dolly Donations, and teamed up with the Abundant Ground Foundation to bring some joy into the lives of orphans in Haiti.  Abundant Ground Foundation has an orphanage in Haiti which houses 181 children under 12.  Sarah is inspiring crafters everywhere to create dollies to send to the Foundation.  The goal is to have 181 dolls, one for each child in the orphanage, and if there are more, they will be distributed to children in the surrounding area.  Alexis and I have been making some dollies of our own to send, so far we have two girl dollies finished and a couple more started.  Sarah has a printable pattern as well as a tutorial on her blog for creating the dolls.  Lexi is having fun choosing the colors and fabrics for the dollies as well as helping me assemble them.  I think this is a wonderful idea.  If any of you would like to make a dolly or read about the project click on the Dolly Donation icon on the left.  The deadline is March 31st!

Oh its been a while...

I realize it has been some time since my last post but the winter weather has had its hold on me, giving me no motivation and lots of laziness.  I have been trying to make some changes in my life by becoming more involved in things and more active rather than just watching the days go by.  I recently applied to become a Red Cross volunteer, which is something I have never done.  Their application process is a bit demanding but hopefully I will hear back soon weather or not they would like me to join their team.  I am also applying to become a Girl scout leader.  I know that seems a little bit odd for me but there are apparently no interested parents around here and my daughter really would like to be a girl scout.  I am actually going to be a co-leader with one of my friends, who's daughter will also be in the troop.  I'm a bit nervous about this responsibility but also really excited to have some bonding time with my daughter.  This was the husbands idea, he participates in her sports so this is my time with her.  I do have some really fun ideas to do with the girls!  More good news, I think my son is potty trained!  He now actually tells me when he has to go (even number 2...that was a challange)  Still has an accident once in a while especially when he is super busy playing....but he is definately a big boy.
