Wonderful Weekend!

I had an amazing weekend!  Saturday we celebrated my little guys 3rd birthday, his birthday is actually today and he shares it with me.  We have a large family so we had a full house and lots of food.  He was so excited and wanted everyone to wear his party hats.

I couldn't find any Super Mario birthday stuff without having to order it online so we improvised.  Of course he had the only Luigi hat and the only one with a star on top.  Here he is with his cousin and her friend.

He got spoiled like usual and got some great gifts.  His favorites are Play-Doh (go figure), Better Batter Baseball, Super Smash brothers game for Wii, and his 4-wheeler!

And of course he was so happy to have his cousins and uncles here to play some football with, usually he gets stuck with sissy and her friends!

It was hot and muggy but we had fun!

I can't believe it...my little baby is three years old!

SUNDAY...

Sunday was the Kids Fishing Derby sponsored by Bassmasters at the conservation club.  We woke up to thunderstorms and really heavy rain so we decided we probably would not go, especially since the kids were tired from the party.  The derby was supposed to start at 9 am.  About that time the rain let up so my husband decided to take our daughter and see what was going on up there.  Everything was still going on so they called for us to meet them there.  They started fishing 45 minutes late but Alexis still caught 5 fish.  This was her very first fishing derby.  Guess what, she won 3rd place in her age category!

She won a trophy and tackle box and all kinds of tackle.  I was so proud of her and she was so excited!  None of us expected her to place on her first time!  The derby was tons of fun with free food and drinks and they gave all the kids these huge bags full of candy.  They also had a clown making balloon animals, but I'm not so good with clowns...I tolerate them for my kids...nuff said.

Here are the kids that placed in all the age categories with the Bassmasters and Club members.  The first place kids won bikes so she set herself a goal for next year!

Super Easy Beach Sign

friday-follow

badge

I was bored the other day and this project popped into my head after I found some letter stencils.  First take a piece of wood and paint it a solid color.  I painted mine white then sanded the edges to make it look weathered.  Then choose a word and lay out your stencils, I chose beach because frankly that is where I would rather be most of the time.  Spray paint your letters and wait until paint is completely dry before removing the stencils.

I did a little more sanding once the letters were dry then sealed everything with an acrylic sealer.  To attach the twine for hanging you will need two screws.

Put the screws in the top of the sign and attach twine, or you can use some rusty wire which I do not have at this time :)

Then I used a glue gun to attach some seashells.

Hang your sign and enjoy.  Mine is in my bathroom and my little guy keeps going in there and saying "look mom, beach".

4 Years ago on this day...

I married the man of my dreams.  Happy anniversary baby, you have my heart and always will.  Our anniversary always gets lost in the craziness between Fathers Day and mine and our son's birthday but I just wanted to look back at one of the happiest days of my life...

Father's Day Fishing

We had an amazing Father's Day.  We went fishing at the Conservation Club with my parents and my inlaws...it was such a great time.  My kids feel most at home when they are outside getting dirty so this was a blast for them, and although it took a few hours this time, my son did end up in the water.  We spent the morning at the kids fishing pond where the edges are shallow so I did not have to worry too much about my little monkey getting hurt.  Once he changed from shoes to rain boots he for some reason thought he could walk right into the water, and as soon as he did his boots filled up with water, he sat down and started yelling for help.  I laughed so hard, and yes he rode home naked!  My daughter caught two fish and I finally caught one at the end, but before I could get a picture he jumped off the hook and fell back into the pond!

My girl loves worms!

Little man not so much...yes they wore their fishing hats!!

Fish number one, daddy helping her get it off the hook

Fish number two

My father-in-law

In her element...nature, outdoors and dirt!

At this point he had already tried to walk into the water in his pants and shoes...I give up!

Had to take the hook off his pole...self explanatory

Right before he walked into the pond, wish I had a pic of him just sitting there in the water but I had to fish him out.

Super Easy Fishing Hat

On Sunday, Father's Day, we are going fishing at the Conservation club near our house.  My kids are super excited and this will be my son's first time.  He has been obsessed with finding a fishing hat.  In a previous post I wrote about the bucket hats we decorated in Girl Scouts, well I used the same bucket hat to make my son's fishing hat.  The plain white bucket hats are available at Michael's for around $1.80 and the fabric I used was just scraps I had laying around.

I cut out a fish pattern out of paper and used it to trace and cut out a fish out of green felt.  Then I traced the same pattern on the blue fabric but when I cut it out, I cut just a little bit inside the line so that the blue fish would be smaller.

Layer the two fish with the smaller one on top and pin together

Sew the fish on to the hat.  I wanted the blue fabric to have some frayed edges so I put the hat in the dryer for a little while with a towel to give it that effect.

Then I got a button and cut a small white circle out of felt, just a bit larger then the button.

Sew it on to the fish...now he can see!

And there you have the finished product, super easy fishing had and Bubby loves it!  All for under $2.00

Oh and Sissy got one too, she insisted on having her face in the photo so sorry you can't see the fish that well.

It's Tuesday...and I must ramble for a second...

Last weekend flew by, like usual, as we finished off our spring soccer season.  My husband is a natural at coaching and the kids really love him.  I was super proud of him as well as my daughter, and her team which went undefeated all season.  The game did get cut short due to a crazy thunderstorm.  Right now I'm in the midst of planning my sons 3rd birthday party as well as out Girl Scout "end of the year" party...oh and getting ready for Father's Day.  June is always so busy, and it goes by too fast.  My son and I share the same birthday, four days before that is our anniversary.  My son's party theme is Super Mario Brothers...and I have very limited ideas :(  My husband requested that we go fishing on Father's day, so we purchased him a membership to the local conservation club where we will be having a picnic and fishing on Sunday.  Here are some pictures of my little soccer star at her last game...
