The Power of Self-Esteem #GirlsUnstoppable {and Giveaway}

Tonight my daughter got up in front of her friends and sang a song in the school talent show.  She was not nervous and she did such a great job.  Thinking back to when I was her age, I'm not sure I could have done that.  Sure I sang in a choir, but a whole song all by myself, no way.  It makes me happy to know that she is growing up confident and with positive self-esteem.  Being a girl or woman in today's day and age is hard.  We have supermodels with toothpick thin bodies, celebrities with huge breast implants and cosmetic surgeries, clothing that is way to revealing and so on.  How is any girl supposed to grow up and feel good about the way she looks.

Did you know that six in 10 girls stop doing what they love because of anxiety about their looks?  That is horrible, we have trained our kids to believe that looks are more important than enjoying activities or following their dreams.

Moms make a huge impact in how girls feel about themselves.  I lived much of my life worried about what others thought of me and had pretty low self-esteem but I don't want my daughter to grow up like that.  It's important to set aside time for you and your daughter to just hang out, or find an activity you both enjoy.  I now do martial arts with her, am the leader of her Girl Scout troop and volunteer at many of her extra curricular activities.  I want to be a positive role model for her.

When it comes to Halloween, I get just as excited as my kids.  I love all the fun costumes and the pumpkin carving.  Friday night I took my son (my daughter was out of town) to a cute little pottery painting place for a Kid's Night where he got to make an adorable pumpkin light.
